When our friends at Shake Shack asked us to make a beer to match their legendary burger, we were excited. After much "research" (aka ShackBurgers), we bring you Shackmeister Ale® - a zippy pale ale with just the right malt flavors to complement the beef, and bright hops to refresh the palate.

Imagine dragging your tongue across Brooklyn thoroughfare. These hops taste like they were grown on a median. Smells like a parking garage elevator. I’ve had 13% beers that were smoother. “The best thing to happen to burgers since fries.” More like the worst thing since lettuce wraps.

Can: Poured a brown/golden color ale with a nice off-white foamy head with good retention. Aroma of caramelized malt with some resinous hops notes. Taste is a mix of caramelized malt notes with some resinous and bitter hoppy notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Enjoyable old school pale ale with some hoppy bitterness and dry caramelized malt.

It's about time that someone recognizes the fact that a good burger needs a good beer. Shake Shack and Brooklyn Brewery team up for a pale ale to suit this perfect pairing.

Shake Shack's exclusive Shackmeister Ale hits the glass with a breaming and bubbly copper pour and building a head of nearly stark white foam. As its sweet and spicy scent carries a perfume of potpourri, citrus and toasted sweetness, the taste opens with a dry caramel backbone, bread crust and nuttiness is near granola fashion.

As it's malt sweetness bounces off of the savory burger character, they each double down on the satisfying taste receptors and carry the bulk of the flavor load heading into the middle palate. As the hops grow, they turn from floral to fruity with notions of orange peel, grapefruit and apricot to pull out the crisper and juicier side of vegetable garnish from the meal. Cleaning up the finish, the bitter spiciness of hops lead the leafy greens down a path of refreshment, crispness and cleanliness to leave the palate yearning for another bite and sip.

Medium bodied but perhaps drier than most pale ale, Shackmeister is built for washing down burgers and refreshing the palate to ensure that every bite is a plentiful and delicious as the first.

So bad I’m thinking maybe I got a skunked can or something. At an airport shake shack so wouldn’t be surprised if so.

From a can the nose is hoppy and enticing, but what a letdown when it hits your mouth. Initial taste isn’t so bad but it leaves a horrid, slightly metallic aftertaste. It was much more palatable when very cold.

Fairly good but not particularly memorable. I mean I will have it a Shake Shack but I’m not searching for it.

Went to shake shack, saw the beer, got super excited, was severely disappointed. Among the most boring beers I’ve tasted. Not worth. I recommend anything other than this. Even a warm Miller lite.

Can from Market of Choice

A clear golden orange with a dense, white head. The nose is decent - citrusy dry hops, mildly juicy with Cascade-like notes, clean, soft, creamy malt, mildly doughy. The palate opens clean with mild bitterness, an easy-drinking citrus hop profile. Mildly doughy malt sweetness, a touch sweet, with a medium body. Drying, mildly bitter on the palate. Inoffensive.

Nice pale ale. Goes well with burgers and fries. Very approachable, not overly hoppy.
