Picked this up at the brewery a few weeks back, as I hadn't been there in quite some time. This was a collaboration with Weldwerks to benefit the Service Workers Coalition, because of everything going on over the last few months, and this did indeed straddle a boundary as I didn't know whether it was an American IPA or a Belgian IPA. In the end, this had haze and heft to it but was an IPA at heart brewed in a way that was distinctly Brooklyn!
Of course, the pour to this was hazy, golden, and bright like amber with a moderately fluffy head topping it off. That settled quickly because of the big bubbles but surprisingly, there wasn't any lacing left behind. Lots of mango, peach, overripe rind, and booze in the nose as the beer's description aligned with the aroma and carried over into the taste. Dry, aromatic, and reminiscent of champagne in the aftertaste, The tropical fruit was quite juicy and strong while feeling like it was just a bit past it's peak of freshness! A bit of melon and yeast stuck around once this went down, as I needed a bit of water to finish it off.
This felt stronger than it was in actuality as it had a good amount of booze and a slight warming effect on me that complemented the fruit nicely. The Sabro dominated here but not at the expense of the other hops as this was enjoyable, but not accessible to the neophyte imbiber. With a Best Buy date of 12/12 on the bottom of the can, this held up well over the last month and a half as there wasn't any sediment at the bottom of the liquid. Funky in many ways, this left a slight burn in my throat and nostalgic for good time of yesteryear when Brooklyn was the only major brewery in the Borough!
