Brewed for the Barrel & Flow Festival
A collaboration between • @brooklynbrewery x @drinkcajunfire x @sgclarkart
Invokes the foodways of Africans in their ancestral lands and in the American South. This rich dark lager is brewed with fonio, an ancient African super-grain used in food and beer for millennia. In the Americas, Africans created brilliant food and drinks from molasses. The seed springs, the stalk rises, the roots run deep.

16oz can from Tavour. Clear, dark brown pour. Aroma is smoky, roasty malts. Taste is smoke, peat, molasses, lightly sweet with some ashy bitterness. Nice

Deep, dark brown body; thin yet lasting head, fairly creamy and light khaki in color. Light aroma of dark malts with a bit of light sweet chocolate. The taste is rustic with cocoa and very mild bitterness, sweet but not extremely so; earthy grains. Medium body; soft on the palate with a decidedly minor sweetness to things.
This beer brings some nice lager smoothness with the robustness of a good dark beer.

Poured from 16oz can into my BeerAdvocate teku. Stamped best by 3/22/22.
Appearance: dark, rich amber hue, with a dash of haze and a thick finger of frothy, light-tan foam with a little bit of a reddish cast to it. Lookin' good.
Smell: a little bit sweet with a solid dose of caramel, there's a nice aroma here that's about halfway between an amber lager and a schwarzbier. Not bad.
Taste: oh wow, the flavor has a fair bit more complexity than the aroma hinted at. There's some caramel and a good chunk of dark fruit, as well as a bit of a yeasty character. There's even a little roast at the end. It's got a little bit of biscuit character, too, which is not my favorite, but overall this is quite good.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a big carbonation and a good creaminess. Quite good for a lager.
Overall: I like this beer quite a lot. There are some elements to the malt profile that aren't quite my jam -- think biscuity amber lager -- but it's compensated for with interesting dark-fruit character. I like it.

16oz can into a pint glass 2021 collaboration for Barrel & Flow Festival.
Looks very nice in the glass, reddish brown body, clear deep red when held up to the light. Small tan head shrinks to a ring and covering, a little lacing early on.
Good honest malty aroma. Or in this case, Fonio grain I guess.
On tasting, strong but smooth. Fairly sweet, molasses. Easy drinking, very enjoyable flavors.
Mouth between medium and full, Finish sweet with something in the grains to smooth it out.
Overall, really smooth take on a euro dark lager. No aftertaste at all. Could enjoy a session of these.
