Picked this up ages ago at the Bottle King in Middletown, having never seen this before nor having anything new from Brooklyn in quite some time. Sure, this was a witbier although it could have been a bit more cloudy and flavorful but for an early spring day such as this, it fit the bill nicely as it was easy to quaff and laid back from start to finish.
This had a nice, golden hue to it although it was quite clear for something of this sort. Lots of head topped this off although that had to be because of this brew's age more than anything else. Very little lacing remained once that settled, as there were just some scattered spots along the top third of my pint (yes, I know that's wrong) glass. I have no idea what fonio should taste and feel like is but there was a nice grain and grass presence that was different from European beers of this type. Hints of elderberry, gooseberry, white wheat, and fall fruit emerged once this warmed up as it had a tinge of sourness to it, and almost reminded me of something I'd have in the fall.
The carbonation was light and long-lasting as it was nearly impossible to detect the alcohol on the taste or in the nose. Best by 12/14/22, this held up well and would be something I'd reach for year-round as it would be appropriate for nearly any season. Glad to see Brooklyn in a can and something different from them, as I need to make my way back to the brewery soon!

Added by Act 25. 1st review. Generally like the brewery and NYC and NJ and regional beers.
Soft wheat and African Fonio (aka findi, fundi, crabgrass grain, hungry grass, white millet, acha rice) with juicy hops combine to make a bright, fruity, creamy white beer.
a) Mass grain brew appearance, with thin head.
s) Hoppy mass budweiser, lemony.
t) brings more fruit, lemon, pear, to the grain.
f) crisp and creamy as billed. Fizzy.
o) Original so welcome!
