Haunted Forever is the most brutal Black IPA ever conceived by Yards. Coming in at 6.66% ABV and brewed with Midnight Wheat, this dark and piney IPA will consume your soul. It’s pure, condensed, unadulterated liquid evil. But, you know, in a good way.

Very dark brown pour with little light around the edges but not viscous looking. Aromas are mostly just charred grain. Flavor follows in the same with a burnt grain backbone with a hint of some hop bitterness. Mouth is light.

(16 oz can, 100521; purchased cold 4-pack at Timber Creek tonight... poured into my Belhaven pub pint)

L: craggy, dirty porcelain-brown, moussy foam, atop a dark-coffee-brown liquid... smattered, scattered lace crust

S: piney, forest-herbal browness... vaguely dark chocolate, toffee-like toasted caramel edge... woody, cakey, molasses-sprayed hearthiness

T: dry-mocha, nutty... woody, dry-grass earthiness... java-dusted, dark cocoa-encrusted... brownie-baked grainy confection

F: velvet goldmine... dry, svelte friction... little heat, perfect(ly) restrained warmth...

O: damn good job on this... why I only noticed this tonight (or maybe a month ago), hmmm... did they brew a subdued version of Storm King?!? hahaha... I recently scoffed at a draft pour at the brewery (and/or I totally swilled it)... no complaints; well done (1871)

16 ounce can poured into a tulip glass. Canned 10/5/21, so not ideal, but not the worst case scenario either.

L---Clear brown when poured through light, but opaque in the glass. Massive, soapy light brown headSlowly fading head left great lacing.

S---Burnt malts are upfront with lemony fruitiness in the background.

T---More malts than hops. Roasty with some vague hops fruitiness.

F---Medium bodied with good carbonation.

O---I'm not really familiar with black IPAs, It's good enough, but I wouldn't seek it out.

Pours black with a very nice dense frothy khaki colored head. Splotches of lace throughout drinking.

Aroma is coffee, citrus fruit, and some pine/sap.

Flavor follows the nose but the coffee, strong roast note is much more prominent than nose would’ve suggested. The citrus was sweeter smelling on the nose, now comes off as a bitter grapefruit citrus. The roast and pine flavors linger nicely after the sip is done.

Mouthfeel is perfect for this beer, medium but light feeling. Goes down clean with a moderate bitterness. Only complaint it needs a little more bitterness.

A really good black ipa, if you like the style give this one a try.

16 oz can

Black in color, thick tan colored head, good head retention. Nice aroma of mix of earthy piney hops and roasted malt. Similar flavor, pleasantly bitter. Medium bodied. Overall very nice, I love hoppy dark beers

Thanks to Jonphisher for this one. 16oz can (dated 10/5/21. I think) poured into 14oz teku. Poured a solid and complete black color with over an inch of dark tan head that had very good retention and moderate lacing.

The aroma was heavily roast forward with some citrus hops backing things up.

Very similar on the tongue, with the hops popping a bit more.

The body seemed a bit light for the style, was mostly smooth (but did have a touch of coarseness), and had a medium-dry finish.

Drinkability was fine, especially if you're a fan of the style (which I'm not really one of).

Overall, a pretty solid and typical take on the style. worth a shot if you're into these beers.

A pour from a pint can into a clear glass Imperial pint mug results in a big light biege head sitting atop a dark brown liquid. It's dark, but not as much as most stouts or porters. It's more like a cola soda dark brown. The head recedes unevenly and leaves an irregular lacing inside the glass. The smell is pleasant, but not nearly pungent. It has some malty sweetness to it, but nowhere near the roasted malt bite of a stout or porter. There's virtually no hoppiness for the nose. There's much more roasted malt to taste than to smell. It provides just a little bitter bite during the finish. That is welcomed, because there is little noticeable hop counterbalance to what is a mildly sweet overall taste. This is interesting and this is good. It's a lager, so of course it's not going to have the rich mouthfeel of a stout or porter. Yet, for a lager, the body is well above average. It drinks smoothly, without being rich, an interesting characteristic. The 5.6% ABV is just about perfect. It certainly allows for several more at a time and that's a good thing.

Cask: Kind of a caramelly smell to this dark brown ale. Taste is a little sweet to open, but back end is spot on. Smooth cask feel.
