Notes via stream of consciousness: I'd never have expected a beer like this from Yards but I guess they've got to keep up with the Jones' just like every body else. It's a standard strength beer at 5.5% ABV brewed with cinnamon, brown sugar, and vanilla. I thought it would be darker for some reason but it's actually a deep golden/amber in color. A rough pour brought up an initial head that was about an inch and three-quarters tall but that faded rather quickly. The aroma is interesting. I get some brown sugar and vanilla-cinnamon but not a whole lot. The flavor, however, is much brighter. I'm getting cinnamon, vanilla, bread, brown sugar, and sweet golden caramel. That sounds sweet but it's really not. It's sweet-ish, for sure, but it's also balanced and finishes dry with some vanilla-cinnamon lingering. I really appreciate that they didn't go for a flavoring, and I think that really helps it. If there was anything artificial to its flavor it would just fail. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. It's easy to drink but very one-sided. I can see it as a now-and-again beer just to change things up but it's not really that exciting in the end. Unfortunately the lack of head retention and lacing hurts it's scoring.

Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a copper color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts, some cinnamon. Taste is maple syrup, malts, light cinnamon. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall it's certainly a unique beer and it's worth giving it a try.

(16 oz can, 051221; purchased single off shelf... poured into a fat tulip)

L: polished-clear, maple-syrupy amber-hued liquid; fizzy head disintegrates upon impact... no collar, no lace; looks like a dangerous pour of bourbon in sort time

S: vanilla, Aunt Jemima, and I guess doughy bread... cinnamon sepia cloud hanging above

T: not as sweet as I hoped for, but certainly caramel-crusted on the edges... French Toast extracty, but with a perhaps perfectly dialed-in, yet too careful malt foundation

F: fair bit of carbonation and glassy slipperiness in body... its lithe, taut texture is its high point... industrial stripping

O: I'm sure the original edible product far out-classes this uncharacteristically flaccid, candy turd by Yards... its restrained blandness may lend itself to serving as a beer-y beverage accompanying trashy-sweet brunch, which is fine by me, but I'd be slurping from the can if and when I find myself in that sugary situation (1787)

The Doylestown Brewing Company version got a 3.23 overall rating, earlier. Let's see
if a collaboration with Yards can improve things. A pint can has been emptied into a clear glass Imperial pint mug, displaying a shiny bright light copper-amber liquid, translucent and without any head. The smell is very sweet, almost like maple sugar candy. It also drinks very sweetly, it is a desert beer after all and maple is the dominant taste. It's not all maple, as it seems there are also notes referencing bread, cinnamon and even butter. It isn't rich, which would have mitigated the sweetness, but it is smooth. No sign of glass lacing and it's slightly under-carbonated. Sorry, but it's not much of an improvement on the original.
