Very Good
Nine Locks ESBNine Locks ESB
Notes: This classic English pub ale has a burnished copper colour with an aroma of toast, honey, and pear. A broad malt body featuring kilned coffee and toffee. East Kent Golding and Fuggles hops give this English style ale a subtle spiciness, which compliments its strong malt backbone.

Cloudy and murky dark amber caramel color with not much visible activity. Creamy beige 2-3 finger head, lasting around 15 minutes, with average legs but good swirl reaction. Flavors of toffee, roasted grains dominant barley, berries, pears, and herbal hops. Slick and smooth medium to full body with sharp carbonation. Medium to strong strength finish, toasty with leafy dry hops, thick caramel and honey. Heavier yeast profile than a typical ESB, more fruity and hoppy, less crispy and attenuated. A bolder ESB interpretation, still well refreshing and balanced but unfortunately not as complex but highly respectable for most probably being an evolving brew of the style. Tastes really good and the body is quite tender. Overall very good quality craft.

Pours a semi-hazy deep amber body with plenty of off-white head that slowly laces down the sides of the glass. Aromas of light citrus, chocolate, toffee, and roasted malt dominate over a relatively clean and somewhat earthy nose. On the palate, a clean, slightly citric burst of bitterness, which quickly spreads to give more of smooth and mellow toffee flavours, with some chocolate and hoppy earth coming through as well. The finish is crisp, leaving not much in its wake, though I think that is good for this beer. Overall, this is quite a good ESB, packing a punch but not so much as to leave the drinker in shell-shock with each new sip. I would probably buy this occasionally.

Pours copper with a frothy head that dissipates fairly quickly with light lacing. Aromas of bread, raisins. Flavours of toffee, bread, with a herbal grassy bitterness.
