I had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at the brewery.
Appearance: rich black hue with a thin layer of ivory foam. Quite nice, though more head would be nice.
Smell: sweet, caramelly, roasty and hoppy. A good take on the style.
Taste: citrusy, fruity and earthy hops atop a roasty malt base. There's a bit of sweetness here too, but mostly it's like a dry stout but with a good hoppiness - good stuff!
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess for the style.
Overall: it's a hard style to love, but this is a good execution of it. Roasty, toasty, ashy malt; citrusy, fruity bitter hops; really, it's all the style wants.
