Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark orange-red with a thin off-white head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, raisins, dried plums, a touch of oak and bourbon; a little maple syrup in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A rich, full bodied barleywine of the English style, with great caramel malt, dark dried fruit, bourbon and some oaky barrel character. I'm not getting much maple, except for lightly lingering in the finish. Apparently Ravenna's first barleywine, and a very nicely brewed and age one. Their stouts and porters have always been solid, so I'm looking forward to future big beers from them.
