Kellerbier literally translates as 'cellar beer' and is a broad style that, generally speaking, refers to any fresh, unfiltered, unpasteurized lager served (in Germany) from gravity casks. Carbonation is light and the cloudy yeast in suspension adds both flavor and aroma. Our Kellerbier is an unfiltered Franconian lager with a bready malt character that is balanced by soft carbonation and clean Perle hops.

Draft pour at the brewery's gastropub in Columbia, SC.
Appearance. Hazy orange-amber colored body with a near creamy off-white head.
Impressive looking and tasting.
Excellent flavor. I haven't had this style for a while but this may be a bit more hoppy than a typical German version. It is certainly better than average.

.5L Draught Sep 2035. Lovely depth and balance, hits just right. Great color and plenty of lacing. It is their signature beer for a reason and worth seeking out.

What a tasty, tasty surprise. Well, not to surprised but it was so good as to blow my top off. Scott Burgess has done a great job bringing his Bierkeller Columbia this far in one year. My rating is similar for the rauchbier and urhell. And the hefeweiss. It was damn hard to leave after spending a weekend in the bierhall and biergarten. The beer was very fresh and tasted so complete. Down to the last .5L or 1L sip, it tasted as if were just poured.

Crowler obtained curbside at Swamp Cabbage
Hazy unfiltered orange amber color, two fingers white head, full curtains and cap of lacing.
Aromas are cut grass, thyme, lilac, yeast, biscuits.
Flavor is outstanding balance of fruit and malt, pear, floral, light citrus, bread notes.
Plentiful carbonation, slightly dry finish. Easy to knock off a liter, great with food.
Flagship beer of this operation does not disappoint.

Pours a cloudy golden-orange with substantial white foam that sticks around. Nose is mostly herbal hops with a little bready malt. Flavour features prominent herbal hoppiness with medium-low bitterness, medium-low doughy-bready malt sweetness, and moderate rustic fermentation character with both low fruity esters and medium-high minerality. It's young and unkempt for a lager, but that's part of the charm. Probably the closest a German lager can come to an American IPA. High drinkability.
