Out of the fog and into the ring, the 2021 gold medalist Barbarosa returns. This 2022 super fighter boosted its strength with the addition of Metric coffee. It spent the year in Michigan harvesting black and red raspberries at the peak of ripeness, then aging in freshly-emptied red wine barrels, and finished with Colossus coffee from Metric. A fighter with bold, round, and robust flavors. Get your hands on this year’s Barbarosa before it fades back into the mist. We know a winner when we see one!

12 ounce can into a tulip snifter. Canned 10/10/22, had 9/20/23.
Pours a mostly opaque purple red color, with a quickly dissipating quarter inch foamy head of purple foam and a few specks of purple cling. Aromas of coffee, raspberries, red wine, malt, a little chocolate, a hint of vanilla. The flavors are pretty much the same- raspberries, coffee, red wine, malt, a little chocolate. Smooth, a very good medium body, appropriately carbonated.
The coffee is a great addition, and it and the raspberries are the stars, but why not keep the bourbon/ cabernet barrel combo like in 2021? Still, this is really good and very enjoyable.

Had on tap. Ironically this was the luchador I worried might be odd one out this year, but instead it stood out as the best! Every sip tells a story, every ingredient shines at different moments: red wine, refined coffee, lush black and red raspberry, with supporting red currant, chocolate, and a whisper of plum. Smell is more wine soaked raspberry and coffee forward, very pure and rich. Feel is lush, smooth, yet has barrel and coffee textures to play with, even some seediness to it. Dark purplish brown opaque pour with a tan cap. A romantic bouquet of a beer that dares to be different
