The hallmark of a modern American brewery is the American IPA. but with everyone in on the action, how is one to set apart? The identifiable character of various hops often give a signature to a taste that the brewery best represents their vibe. And for Temescal, that mean Nelson Sauvin.
The brisk and winey undertones of Hi Nelson IPA resonates through the nose with piquant citrus, vinous white wine, a juniper-like spice and a balance of gentle toasted sweetness. Light amber in color, the heady ale leads with a supple sweetness of thin caramel, honey and a floral orange blossom softness.
The middle shakes off its sweetness confidently and quickly favors the development of hop flavor. Berry-like as much as citrus, the beer's bright taste of orange and lemon seem under-ripened while green berry, white grape and juniper berry offers a vinous peppery taste and a sprucy herbal bite. Trending bitter and dry, those spicy, earthy, and botanical nuances has the tastebuds thinking cocktail as much as pale ale.
Crisp, dry and refreshing, the medium-bodied ale trends lighter due to its spicy and tangy bitterness. Yet, remnants of sweetness remains in just enough character to keep the hops supported with honey and fructose. A long and bitter aftertaste lasts well past the malt and continues the beer's spicy and winey tone.
