an american pale ale with fresh guava, a new one from these guys, and a pretty cool beer, but in need of a little refinement as well. the beer is pinkish orange, very thick and cloudy, with a short white head on top. the aroma is fresh guava, which i realize is pretty subtle in actuality, but it works with the juicy dry hopped profile of the base beer, and the flavor mirrors the nose very well. there is an almost tropical fruit candy profile to this, which is strange because the beer is not particularly sweet, but the fruit also tastes natural, citrusy, and summery. i wish the base beer wasnt so heavy, i think the murky weight of it prevents a really delicate flavor profile from being fully appreciated, and less would be more here, at least for me. the hops are nice, but they too seem robust compared to the more subtle guava, which is odd to say, since this is one of the most guava forward beers i have had, its just a mild flavor i guess. light tang here, rich frothy feel, good carbonation, long finish. i would scale back the grain and even the hops a little bit here to let the guava shine even more, but this was a fun glass of beer and a rather ambitious one at that. we had a great time here at temescal!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
