100% New York State pilsner malt, wheat and rye was fermented with Norwegian Hornindal Kveik yeast and hopped with Ekuanot and NY Cascade. Inspired by the flavors of gin, we added fresh cut juniper branches from Ohio, lemon verbena and lemon peel.

A: Pours a slightly hazy pale golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and moderate bright yellow + pale yellow colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall sudsy foamy off-white head that slowly reduces to a large patch of thin film covering a little more than 75% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of juniper/pine, slightly tart lemon citrus lacto, and juniper berries with light aromas of herbal (lemon verbena) and grassy hops. Light aromas of pale + wheat + grainy malts with minimal amounts of sweetness.
T: Upfront there are light flavors of pale + wheat + grainy malts with minimal amounts of sweetness. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of juniper/pine, slightly tart lemon citrus lacto, and juniper berries. Light flavors of herbal (lemon verbena) and grassy hops which impart a very light amount of bitterness which does not linger for long.
M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light to moderate amounts of dryness in the finish.
O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol. Enjoyable with a smell and flavor that evokes gin. Unique and I would definitely have this one again.

hands down my favorite beer in here (which is really saying something, all of them were awesome), and maybe my favorite beer from our aggressive brewery tour of new york over the last few days, i mean, this one is really killer. a rustic saison done with a newly popular norwegian yeast strain and brewed with juniper branches, seems perfect as we move towards christmas, strong pine in nose and taste here, but its so complex, its worked in really well, and it makes this really one of a kind i think. pale in color, a little cloudiness to it, and a short white head from the tap. aroma here is spruce and gin and botanicals and medicinal and woodsy, like a musk id like to wear. the yeast is real interesting, has a funkiness about it, an old world thing, a nordic vibe, but a bready depth and a saison element to it as well, peppery and drying, not particularly estery or belgian in nature to me, but distinctive in a cool way nevertheless. really compatible with the pine element here, an unexpected fusion of flavors that really sets me off. spice and spruce, really wintery to me, complex like no other, and better and better as it warms up. feels light for boasting heavier flavors, great carbonation, light tang at the finish too. i thought this was amazing, seriously top notch, definitely has me excited about this brewery!

This is my first from Fifth Hammer. A fresh pint on tap from the Beer Table in Grand Central terminal in NYC. A golden honey with just a trace of cloudiness. Stays covered in my little jar/pint glass. Decent lacing.
Nose is lovely with a spicy peppery bite. Notes of juniper and lemon. A subdued Belgiun funk, firm malt. A grain tinged sweetness. Some pear, apple and licorice. Floral hops with a bit of lemongrass.
Taste is excellent. A complex juniper and sweet berry front. Broad malt backbone with an upfront yeastiness that lingers lightly. A slightly sour middle that's juicy like lemonade. Lemongrass hops in the dry yeast tinged finish. Yeast and whole wheat bread dough remain.
A soft smooth, smooth carbonation. Medium light weight and quenching swallow. This is a refreshing and highly sessionable brew despite the 6.6 abv.
I really like this brew. I'm hoping it willl be around somewhere I can get 64oz. growler. Refreshing and easy drinking with a delicious uniqueness in the Saison spectrum. Love it. Point of note. The correct name for this beer is The Tangled Tree. Not Angled Tree.

On tap at Beer Shop, NYC.
Pours a slightly cloudy golden color with a moderate head and lacing. The beer color becomes clearer throughout.
Aromas of berries, lemon, plain yogurt, custard like. Leafy and floral aromas evoke verbena and grass.
The palate is dry and fruity with flavors of berry and crackery malt. There are also flavors of verbena and grass, a light tartness and moderate peppery phenols.
Medium bodied, smoothly carbonated, soft mouthfeel and dry finish.
Interesting take on the Saison style.
