This was another beer that I picked up last week in Williamsburg as I hadn’t had anything from Fifth Hammer in a while. Not surprising that this was a Fruit and Field beer as it fit the bill perfectly and would have complemented a sunny summer day quite nicely. It said on the label that this was a Sour and in the end, this straddled the line between the two styles while still being pleasing on the palate!
Quite an interesting appearance to this beer as it poured like strawberry juice, since it was a deep read and nearly clear with a dark, fine haze floating in it. A pink, full, and bubbly head topped it off as it quickly and loudly settled down and never rose up again after subsequent pours. No lacing was left behind as I worked my way through this, which wasn't surprising given how thin the liquid was. Lots of sweet strawberry, fruit patch, earthiness, and a hint of tangy lime in the nose as the taste had a bit of cranberry tang and sour fruitiness to it with some hints of rose and hibiscus in the back.
Plenty of body and a light carbonation kept this fun without being neither feeble nor heavy-handed. Canned on 3/30, I loved the 80's-inspired label as this held up well over the last three months. Sure, people don't go to breweries in Long Island City for beers like this but for these lovely summer nights, this would be a brew that complements those nicely as I could have easily reached for another. Nice take on the style here!
