Growlette brought home and served in a glass mug.
The appearance was a nice looking dark brown close to black color with a half finger's worth of eggshell white foamy head. Dissipated finely to leave some messy lace running here and there, semi-clingy with a film.
The aroma had a nice blend of sweet milk chocolate to some dark cocoa powder with a light roasty coffee character and then a touch of vanilla wafer sweetness.
The flavor was moderately sweet with a fabulous meshing of the milk chocolate to the dark cocoa powder. Coffee character added the roasty level that I had hoped for. Mild sweet to roasty aftertaste, milk and dark chocolate.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. This felt like a good porter in it's carbonation. ABV, honestly, did feel as projected, perhaps a bit high for the style but I ended up accepting it.
Overall, I only put it in here as an English Porter because that is what the brewer said. However, I did not get any of the normal "dark fruity sweetness" normally associated with the English porter style. Me, I didn't mind and just chalked it up to brewer "creativity." What else does one do, besides, this beer is well brewed and more than worthy of coming back to.
