Modeled after candy, both of the chocolate and the fruity varieties, Baa Baa Brewhouse rolls them both into a sour ale for a unique savory, succulent and sour blend of flavors to keep the tastebuds guessing with each and every sip.
Candy Baa, the Mango Raspberry Chocolate edition, pours with a turbid peachy rouge with a scant lacy necklace. As its pulp coats the glass, the nose leads in with a tangy tropical and berry medley along with an oddly curious whiff of fudge, campfire and vinyl. Candied sweetness greets the palate first with aspects of taffy, sourdough and pastry.
Then as the full fruitiness unfolds on the middle palate, the raspberry takes control with a spicy red tartness that's redolent with red wine. An accompanying acidity from the Berlinerweiss within adds to the berry with dry crab apple, gooseberry, passionfruit, sour grape and lime. Mangos add an element of succulence and roundness ahead of a more savory taste of Tootsie Roll.
As the chocolate remains to take an edge off of the sourness, the beer's smoothie and candied taste finishes with a yin-and-yang of flavors and textures in a most curious fashion, following with a medium length aftertaste of chocolate covered fruits.
