Big foam in the tall Maredsous goblet. Hazy light mahogany color. Or burnt sienna if you prefer. Spicy and a little sharp with a light but spritzy mouthfeel. Rather sweet and malty. The tinge of the ginge made me cringe at first, but after your taste buds adjust it's actually good for a few sips.
There's a little yeasty bitterness in the aftertaste. Plenty of Belgian character with a dry finish. The label notes are right on in saying "peppery and earthy." And, as LiquidAmber notes, this really needs a partner to drink the big bottle. Still, it's a brew that makes the world a more interesting place. From the 750 ml purchased at Elizabeth Station in Bellingham.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a medium to dark reddish orange with a fizzy light khaki head that dissipates quickly to a thin film with slight lacing. Aroma of grainy malt, saison yeast and ginger. Flavor is grainy farmhouse malt, ginger, saison yeast with slight funkiness, light tumeric, the flavor of which deepens into the finish which is somewhat spicy from the ginger and tumeric, but with classic grainy malt in the background. Medium bodied with sharp, peppery carbonation. This is an interesting take on a saison and both the ginger and tumeric fit in well with the saison malt and yeast. Unfortunately, both spice flavors are eventually dominating and although spicy and refreshing at first, finishing a 750ml is a little challenging due to the spicy flavors. I liked this, but would not get it again except in a smaller bottle.
