16oz pint at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square - best to try this one out on cheap pint Sundays when I'm in the area, then try to make it to the southside brewpub itself, strangely.
This beer appears a clear, glassy medium bronzed amber colour, with one finger of puffy and loosely foamy ecru head, which leaves some eroding limestone cliff lace around the glass as things quickly recede.
It smells of bready and biscuity caramel malt, a muddled dark orchard fruitiness, mild black pepper notes, and some leafy, weedy, and floral noble hop bitterness. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, a further biscuity toffee sweetness, some apple/pear fruity character, a hint of wet char, rainbow peppercorns, and more earthy, leafy, and grassy verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is moderate via its ample frothiness, the body an adequate middleweight, and decently smooth, with a small airy creaminess arising as the ambient temperatures grow a pair around here. It finishes off-dry, with the grainy caramel and pleasant green hops seeing us out.
Overall, this is a genial and easily accessible version of the style, one that is very flavourful and balanced. Not to mention that the low ABV helps it to be considered as a worthy candidate for sessioning, if that's your particular Tao of beer appreciation.
