Renegade #029 West Coast IPA is our take on a classic West Coast IPA. The aroma bursts with tropical fruit and citrus. Cascade, Centennial and Chinook hops take center stage, offering vibrant notes of pungent pine, citrus and dank hop bitterness.

Gold coloured with a 1 inch head. The smell is hoppy and citrusy. The taste is very bitter, almost too much so, with tropical and grassy notes. An unusual aftertaste

473 mL can from their Winter Collection mixed six-pack; dated Sept 29 2020 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear medium golden hue, crowned with nearly an inch of bubbly, soapy white head that settles off in less than five minutes' time. It deposits a gorgeous coat of doily-patterned lacing as it is reduced to a narrow collar and bubbly film upon the surface - not much to complain about from a visual standpoint. I'm getting grapefruit, lemon and floral, spicy hops on the nose, together with lesser notes of pine resin and grainy pale malts.
Not bad - I'm tasting grainy pale malt sweetness underneath a roiling sea of C-hop flavours. Grapefruit and orange peel come to mind at first, but they're eventually overrun by pithy, floral, earthy hop bitterness and pine resin towards the tail end of the sip, which starts citrusy and floral before concluding with a lingering note of resin. Medium in body, with moderate carbonation levels that give a proper bite to this smooth-feeling brew. Finishing one can will be easy enough for any hophead, but I don't think I'd want to stick with this all night.

Another tallboy, also included in a Cowbell Winter Mixer pack. Dated Sep 19 2025 and listed at 6.8%. Lots of lemon and grapefruit peel on the nose, as well as pine and lightly caramelized malts. The taste is along the same lines as last time: citrusy and malty up front, with an earthy, resiny, bitter conclusion. It's a tried and true combination for West Coast IPAs, but it's been done better; I see no need to tweak its grade. Cowbell's West Coast IPA is a serviceable, decently brewed old-school IPA that's worth trying, though at this point I'd wait for a fresh batch.
Final Grade: 3.68, an acceptable B grade.
