Review from notes. LCBO purchase for around $3.50 CDN.

Appearance - Hazy peach color brew with a finger plus of white head that recedes fairly quickly, leaving a small soapy collar and minimal lacing.

Smell - Passionfruit yes, with hints of stone fruit and touches of other citrus for a fairly robust nose. Does have the underlying aroma that immediately invokes sour beer as opposed to something sweet and fruity.

Taste - Quite tart with passionfruit shining through, and gradually transistions to a sweeter more well rounded beer. Due to the tartness, something like fruit punch seems miles off, but minus the name the flavors are good and hits fruited kettle sour to a T.

Mouthfeel - Medium-light bodied, crisp carbonation and lively finish.

Overall - While a different beer than perhaps the name invokes, definitely a solid kettle sour that I enjoyed more than I thought I would. Definitely a cut above average in terms of the style of this brew.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Mar 23 2021 and served slightly chilled.

Pours turbidly hazy, featuring nearly an inch of soapy, foamy white head that fades away within two or three minutes. It leaves behind a few strands of lacing, as well as a frothy collar and a filmy layer on the surface; looks fine to me, but it's not particularly aromatic. Tropical fruits do come through, albeit in a subdued manner - I do get a little bit of that passion fruit, with hints of gritty wheat, cantaloupe and fainter suggestions of mango, lemon and guava.

A serviceable fruited sour - the lactic acidity is sharp at first, but juicier, sweeter flavours of tropical fruit help to counteract the lemony tartness. I am getting passion fruit, wheat graininess and a little bit of guava towards the finish, followed mostly by lacto sourness into the aftertaste. Light in body, with aggressive carbonation that feels crisp and prickly on the tongue - it's pretty refreshing, and not at all difficult to pour down the hatch.

Final Grade: 3.77, eking out a B+. Cowbell's Passion Fruit Punch is a competently-made fruit sour that doesn't really stand out from the pack in any meaningful way. Maybe more of a juicy-sweet presence from the tropical fruit would've given the lacto character another dimension to play with - in addition to playing up the 'fruit punch' angle they're already going for? Basically, I felt that the passion fruit (and especially guava) kind of took a back seat to the sourness here, as if they're just along for the ride. I'm not in a big hurry for more, but try this one and judge for yourself.
