473 mL can from the LCBO, one of two new brews in their Summer Selection mixed sixer. Dated 04/05/2021 (I think? It's smudged) and served barely chilled.
Pours hazy and translucent, its pale golden-hued body capped off with one finger of frothy white suds that vanishes in about sixty seconds flat. Almost nothing of interest is left behind - a few wisps on the surface, but that's it... yep, looks like a kettle sour. It smells of mango and berries, with hints of syrupy canned peaches and mild lactic funk - not bad at first, but very muted once the head dies off.
It's straightforward, but it tastes fine and delivers on the flavours that it advertises - nice mango sweetness at the forefront, balanced with some moderately tart lactic acidity atop suggestions of wheat malt. Lychee berries become more noticeable at the tail end of the sip, which also has some lemony notes and more lacto character that dissipates into the aftertaste. Light-medium in body, with average carbonation levels that provide a little bit of crispness - though I'd describe the overall texture as sparkling juice-like (softer and fluffier). I polished off my can easily enough, but one at a time is plenty.
Final Grade: 3.73, a serviceable B grade. Cowbell's Mango Lychee Sour is a pretty tasty kettle sour: calling it remarkable or memorable might be a bit of a stretch, but I enjoyed this enough to give it a lukewarm endorsement. Honestly, I've reviewed nothing but fruit beers and sours for about a month, and I'm more than ready to move on to something else - though it was nice to wrap up the streak with something relatively unique: i.e. I can't say I've had many other lychee sours.
