473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Aug 12 2021 and served slightly chilled.
Pours turbid and hazy; its body is pale yellow-hued, topped off with nearly one finger of smooth, foamy white head that fades within two or three minutes' time. A modest collar and some filmy wisps are all that remain, aside from a messy coat of webbed lace - looks pretty good to me, but the aroma is very muted. There're some grainy malts, with hints of grapefruit and passion fruit, but that's about it - kind of disappointing for a Citra single hop ale: what gives, isn't it known for its aroma?
It's a serviceable pale ale, I suppose - grainy pale malt sweetness off in the background, with the Citra contributing hints of grapefruit and passion fruit. Finishes with grapefruit pithiness and a touch of passion fruit lingering into a lemon-citrusy, lightly malty aftertaste that clings to the taste buds for a second or two after each sip. Light-ish in body, with moderate carbonation that feels crisp and spritzy on the tongue, giving a nice bite to this brew's smooth mouthfeel. It's pretty refreshing, and no challenge whatsoever to gulp back.
Final Grade: 3.51, squeaking out a B grade. Citra Smash is ok, but it's not really one of the better Cowbell products I've had - maybe this is one of those cases where the hops just fell off really fast, or maybe they just didn't use enough of them in the first place. Who knows - I'd give this another whirl if I come across a fresh batch, but otherwise I don't expect to be returning any time soon. Try it if you're curious... it's not as if it's a bad pale ale, just a forgettable one.

473 ml can served cold into a tulip. LCBO purchase for around $3.40 CDN.
Appearance - Hazy, pale golden color with yellow highlights. A finger plus of loose white foam on top and moderate staying power. Some sparse sticky lacing clings to the edges of the glass.
Smell - Subdued nose, some sweaty gym socks, hints of grapefruit melded in and other citrus.
Taste - Light mild citrusy flavors. Hints of lemon, grapefruit, passionfruit. Pretty decent depth of flavor on the citrus, although not the most intense either. Some sweetness in the backend of the sip.
Mouthfeel - Medium-light bodied, juicy finish, carbonation is modest.
Overall - Passable but unspectacular lighter citrusy pale ale. Probably worth a shot as the passionfruit taste is a little different than many out there, but otherwise, fairly ho-hum.
