Pours a hazy orange-brown colour with sediment. Small head. The smell is bitter and tropical. The taste is just tropical, no specific papaya or peach notes, just like five-alive. Thick mouthfeel

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Nov 11 2021 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a hazy, muddied apricot yellow colour; situated atop is just over a finger of soapy, bubbly white foam that recedes within a matter of minutes. It splatters several swaths of sticky lace about in the process, which reduces it to a tight collar and filmy cap - looks like a typical NEIPA to me. It smells of peach - not peach flavouring, but more like if you actually took a ripe peach, blended it up and took a good whiff. The papaya is also discernible, mixed together with hints of orange juice, apricot, honeydew melon and lychee - thumbs up, smells juicy and enticing.
The fruit purées shine through nicely into the flavour profile - lots of peach flesh at the forefront, interspersed with hints of passion fruit, citrus, melon, wheaty bread and of course papaya. Hints of grapefruit and piney bitterness at the finish, with papaya flavouring and peachiness lasting into the aftertaste. For the most part I like this beer, but the papaya lasts way too long and comes off as both fake and cloying. Medium in body, with moderately lively carbonation that prickles the palate and froths up a little on the tongue; feels juicy and wholesome, with darn good drinkability for 6.0%.
Final Grade: 3.79, a B+. I love peaches, which is why it's odd that I can't really think of any 'peach beers' that I've loved in the past. Either they're lacking in actual peach flavour, or they're too 'artificial' for my liking - but Cowbell's Papaya Peach IPA is one of the few I've had where the peach flavours are both forceful and (largely) authentic. The papaya on the other hand, does come off as a little fake, which is too bad because otherwise this would be a really good fruited IPA. Taken purely as a hazy IPA, it's merely alright, but if you're looking for one that focuses solely on the fruity/juicy elements of the style, try it on for size.
