473 mL can included in their Summer Six Mix pack; coded Feb 23 2022 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a turbid apricot yellow colour, briefly capped with half a finger of bubbly, soapy white head that fizzles off within a minute or two. Its remnants are underwhelming: a thin collar surrounding a few wisps on the surface, with a few strands of lace flung about. Lots of fresh mango on the nose, but there's also a strong undercurrent of raspberry jam; other than that, I'm getting hints of orange, pineapple and peach. Delivers as advertised.
That follows over into the flavour profile - the mango is quite dominant over the course of the sip, with other flavours coming and going in turn. Hints of wheaty bread, oat sweetness, orange and peach drink, with the raspberry gaining some steam towards the finish; sweet, but not tart, with faintly grassy hops preceding a fruity aftertaste with more mango and peach drink lingering on. Medium-light in body, with soft carbonation that gently brushes against the tongue, contributing to a smooth, somewhat pillowy mouthfeel. Very easy to toss back, as there's virtually no bitterness or sign of the 6%.
Final Grade: 3.82, a B+. Cowbell's Mango & Raspberry Hazy IPA is perfectly acceptable if you're seeking out a mango/raspberry beer (emphasis on mango)... but as an IPA? I'm just not sold: its hop flavours are largely overwhelmed by the mango and raspberry purées, so the overall experience is more akin to a fruited ale, vs. an IPA with added fruit. Marginally better than their Papaya Peach IPA - I'd give this brew another shot if they release it as a single, as it's both palatable and fairly unique. But to be honest, I'm just not that "in" to mango beer.
