473 mL can included in their Summer Six Mix pack; coded Feb 17 2022 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a cloudy purplish colour, capped with half a finger of tight, even pale pink-tinged head that sizzles off within sixty seconds or so. A thin collar lives on, with some filmy wisps on the surface quickly fading; yep, it looks like a blueberry sour. Blueberry ice cream and lemonade on the nose, with hints of lemon zest, wheaty malt and candy sweetness.
It's tasty, but the milk sugar causes it to lean to the 'sweet' side, blunting the whole 'sour' aspect considerably. Hints of wheat malt underlie big flavours of lemonade and blueberry - no sign of flavourings or extracts here, so I'm guessing it's all real fruit. Tart and a little sour on the back end, but the lactose sweetness is what persists into the aftertaste, along with more lemon zest. Light in body, with zippy carbonation that prickles that palate continuously, lending a nice crispness to this brew's smooth, somewhat fluffy texture. I rarely find sours all that sessionable, but I could easily drink a few of these on a hot patio this summer in no time flat.
Final Grade: 3.91, a solid B+. I had reservations going into this one, having tried more than a few lackluster blueberry beers in the past, but Blueberry & Lemonade Sour impressed me in the end. It gives off a blueberry-lemon sherbet vibe that I wound up really digging, and before I knew it, my glass was empty. A bit sugary, but the fruit flavours pop and come off as very authentic, at least to me. One of Cowbell's best sours so far, and I hope to see it available as a single.
