473 mL can from their Winter Six Mix, purchased at the LCBO; dated Sep 13 2022 and served barely chilled.
Pours a hazy golden-amber colour, its body strewn with flocculent floaties; situated atop is nearly a finger of loose, frothy white head that settles off within ninety seconds or so. A thin collar and wispy film are the only remnants, with a few specks of lace scattered about. Big strawberry aromas, with added hints of orange, rhubarb, mango and melon, as well as a wheaty malt note.
It's tasty, but the hops are riding in the back seat this time around: there's just a burst of juicy strawberry flavour right off the bat, and it lasts throughout the sip. In the meantime, the rhubarb tartness does come through nicely midway, with suggestions of orange, grapefruit and stone fruit preceding an aftertaste of sweet strawberry and tart rhubarb, with just a twinge of floral, resiny bitterness. On the fuller side of medium bodied, with relatively low carbonation that weakly nudges against the surface of the palate. Feels juicy, soft, smooth and satisfying, with very good drinkability.
Final Grade: 3.88, a B+. Here are some indisputable facts. 1) Everyone likes strawberries. 2) Good strawberry beers are not easy to come by, so there is absolutely a sizable target demographic for this beer. I'm not smack dab in the middle of that target, but I liked it well enough and would probably pick it up as a single when the mood strikes. A little sweet for an IPA, but the rhubarb's signature tartness helps balance it out a little - no wonder these two are often paired together. About on par with their original Hazy Days in terms of quality - if you liked that beer, and have an appreciation for fruity brews, I think this'll be right up your alley.
