404 mL nitro can from the LCBO, included in Cowbell's Summer Mixer six-pack. Dated Mar 23 2023 and served slightly chilled.
Cracks open with a loud hiss, followed by a brief cascade from a rough pour; its foggy, golden orange-hued body is capped with over a finger of tight, creamy, long-lasted white head. It smells of orange sherbet, vanilla and sweet cream, with little in the way of nuance beyond that... but I can't complain too much, because it smells exactly as expected for an orange creamsicle beer.
Saccharine, simplistic flavour profile: I'm getting orange zest, orange sherbet and vanilla, with a fair bit of creamy sweetness. Not much development at the finish, which offers more vanilla and hints of orange candy; these flavours dissipate into a creamy aftertaste. Medium in body, with a classic, creamy-soft nitro mouthfeel that suits this beer's theme perfectly. Superb drinkability - this does have potential as a session beer if you really like vanilla. I don't, so one can is plenty.
Final Grade: 3.64, a B grade. It's worth mentioning that my past experiences with nitro beers have been mixed: they're almost always innocuous-tasting (not to mention beautiful-looking), but they just aren't my jam. The same could be said of vanilla beers in general... so keeping in mind both of those biases, it's kind of surprising that I mostly liked Cowbell's Creamsicle Nitro. It's rather sweet and the flavours are as deep as a puddle, but the nitro also complements said flavours nicely. Not something I'm keen to revisit, but worth a try if it sounds appealing to you.
