Good morning! Or good whatever time of day you have decided to enjoy this coffee-infused nitro brown ale. This delightful fusion blends the rich, roasted characteristics of coffee with the smooth and malty profile of a traditional brown ale. Crack this nitro can open and POUR HARD for maximum nitro cascading effect.

404 mL nitro-can from the LCBO, included in Cowbell's Winter Mixer; dated Sep 1 2023 and served barely chilled.
Poured quickly for that cascade effect; it's deep, clear chestnut brown with copper-amber highlights. Nearly two fingers of dense, creamy, off white-coloured head gradually dissipates, lasting for at least ten minutes - a generous collar and quarter-inch cap remain indefinitely, with swaths of lace produced after each gulp. Looks fantastic so far. It smells of espresso, toasted nuts, toffee and roasted grains, with a wisp of cocoa. Nice, but a little muted, which goes part and parcel with nitro beers in my experience.
It tastes alright - a little sweet, offering up flavours of toasted bread, roasted grain, coffee and caramelized sugars. Modest bitterness at the finish, like chewing on coffee grounds; hints of cocoa and nuttiness fade into a weakly bittersweet aftertaste. Light-medium in body, with the nitro gently prickling the surface of the tongue, adding some zip to this brown ale's exceedingly smooth & soft mouthfeel. Easy to drink; not really interesting enough to take your time with.
Final Grade: 3.54, a B grade. Cowbell's Latte Nitro Brown Ale is not bad, but as coffee beers go it's barely average, at best. The nitro doesn't really add a whole lot - that is, beyond the visuals, and of course the mouthfeel (assuming you enjoy nitro). The coffee flavours aren't great, and the underlying brown ale didn't do much for me, either - it's passable I guess, but not a beer I'd be inclined to buy as a single. If they release another batch, I suppose it's worth a try, but only if you find the concept inherently appealing.
