Sunsplash is a light and easy-drinking session IPA. It's juicy, fruity, and low in bitterness. Perfect for a day at the beach, a cottage weekend, or any occasion that calls for a few refreshing beverages.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Feb 29 2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours hazy and translucent, its pale golden yellow-hued body topped with an inch of soapy, sparkling white head that falls off within five minutes or so. A lumpy eighth-inch cap and frothy, sudsy collar survive a bit longer, with a decent swath of sticky lace flung onto the glass - lookin' good so far. The aroma is fruity, comprised of a mix of citrus and tropical fruits - I'm getting pineapple, mango, orange and passion fruit, with hints of melon and pear.
It starts off tasting fine, but stumbles at the finish. I'm tasting citrus, underripe stone fruit and pineapple, with flavours of woodsy, herbal notes bringing up the rear. Coconut comes through at the finish, with orange and earthy, woodsy hops dissipating into the aftertaste. Light in body, with firm carbonation that adds some bite to this light ale's smooth, somewhat soft mouthfeel. I knocked this one back quickly, mostly so I could move on to something else.
Final Grade: 3.53, a B grade. I'm going to be brutally honest here: the chances of me revisiting Sunsplash Session IPA are somewhere between slim & none. Cowbell doesn't typically list the gory details of their beers, (i.e. the specific hops or malts used), but I'd bet my left nut that there's Sabro in there - that flash of coconut/suntan lotion makes me confident in that wager. The herbal, woody note in the aftertaste is also off-putting, as it clashes with the fruity flavours at the forefront. Definitely not my thing, but I wouldn't discourage others from trying it - to each their own, after all.
