473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Cowbell's Summer Mixer pack. Dated Mar 27 2024 and served slightly chilled. Reviewed from notes taken last September.
Pours a pale pinkish-orange colour, stirring up one finger of tight, creamy, off white-tinted head that melts away within three or four minutes. A frothy collar and patchy, filmy cap are the main survivors, though there's also a narrow band of lace clinging to the glass. Understated artificial watermelon on the nose, with added hints of wheaty, bready malts and coriander.
The flavours are alright - watermelon juice & flavouring are immediately apparent, with notes of salt, simple syrup and coriander. Bready, wheaty malts are also discernible, with low level lactic sourness briefly coming through at the finish; the aftertaste is salted watermelon and sugar. Medium-light in body, with low carbonation and a smooth, soft mouthfeel. Fairly refreshing, easy to drink, and not challenging to do so.
Cowbell brewed a grapefruit gose a few years ago that I liked more than this one - but then again, I usually enjoy grapefruit beers, whereas watermelon-flavoured ones are always a hard sell, so there's some level of personal bias at work here.

Another tallboy from the LCBO; dated Apr 10 2025, making it fresher than my last sample. Watermelon Salted Sour is no masterpiece, but if you're just looking for a fruity sour to swig back in warmer weather, you could do worse. I'm glad I had the chance to revisit this with a reasonably fresh can, but as far as fruited sours go, this is comfortably in the middle of the pack. I might drink this again at some point, and if you're a fan of watermelon-flavoured beers then there aren't a whole lot of readily-available alternatives in this province.
Final Grade: 3.64, a B

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, from the Summer Mixer boxset from my favourite LCBO at The Roundhouse Centre in nearby Windsor. My first beer from the Blyth, ON brewery.
