473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Jul 2 2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a foggy apricot yellow colour, kicking up less than a finger of loose, soapy white head that disintegrates within sixty seconds or so. A frothy collar remains, surrounding a filmy patch on the surface; there's some modest, stringy lace deposition after a few sips. Peach drink on the nose, along with a decent smattering of honeydew melon, orange and coconut.
Interesting flavours - there's some aspects I really like, and a few I don't particularly care for, but overall it's tasty and approachable. Apricot, peach candy, orange and banana come through clearly, with hints of bready, wheaty malt sweetness, passion fruit and coconut joining the fray later on. Coconut and melon are what last through the finish and briefly into the aftertaste; quite low in bitterness, but it does have a juicy quality. Medium in body, with active carbonation that adds some spritz to this brew's juicy-smooth mouthfeel. This glass will be easy enough to polish off, but one per night is plenty.
Final Grade: 3.75, a B+. Cowbell's Experimental IPA has its ups and downs. I do think its flavour profile is somewhat novel, so I am inclined to toss out a few bonus points: I mean, there are *so* many hazy IPAs out there with *so* much overlap, and it's literally refreshing to try something different. Stated more bluntly, this isn't necessarily an amazing IPA, but it does have personality, and I can respect that. Worth trying once, preferably as soon as possible because this is already two months old, and who knows if a follow-up batch is forthcoming.
