473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Cowbell's Winter Mixer six-pack; dated Sep 10 2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a foggy pale golden colour, generating one finger of loose, soapy white head that melts away within two or three minutes. A frothy collar and filmy cap manage to survive, with a few patches of lace scattered across the glass; looks alright to me. Peach, passion fruit and strawberry on the nose, with hints of bubble gum, pineapple and grapefruit. I like it, but I do find the relative lack of citrus aromas odd.
Same deal with the flavour profile - and don't get me wrong, it tastes pretty good - but other than some muddled grapefruit notes, I'm not getting a lot of citrus out of this one. Instead it's peach, pineapple and passion fruit that stand out, along with a hint of cherry bubble gum. Mildly floral on the back end, with a touch of earthy bitterness; stone & tropical fruits quickly fade into a slightly juicy aftertaste that doesn't last. Medium in body, with average carbonation that rolls placidly across the palate, contributing to a smooth, relatively fluffy mouthfeel. Decent drinkability, with little sign of that 6.6%.
Final Grade: 3.67, a B grade. I'll say this: naming your pale ale "Citrus IPA", when the only potential source of citrus-like flavours are the hops, could be considered a bold move, or a foolish one. In this case, I'm leaning towards the latter. To be fair, two of the three hop varietals are known to impart aromas and/or flavours of grapefruit, and I did get a little bit of that here - but as I sipped on this brew, at no point was 'citrus' the first thing that sprang to mind. I still liked this beer - I just feel like maybe some orange peel, lime zest or grapefruit juice might've helped to justify its moniker, because the Citra & Nectaron sure don't.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL, from their Winter Mixer 6-pack, at my favourite LCBO at The Roundhouse Centre in nearby Windsor. My seventh beer from the Blyth, Ontario brewery, and first for 2025.
