Canadians are generally humble, generous, and welcoming, but back us into a corner and you might take an elbow to the head - figuratively or literally! Brewed with our true teammates in mind. Elbows Up is a well crafted light lager brewed with Ontario Hops, Ontario Yeast and Canadian Malts. ELBOWS UP!

From a 473ml can dated 11 08 25. Poured into a pint glass. A good one finger fine white head on a slightly foggy straw. Good head retention. A foamy cap sticks around to the end. Some persistent lace rings.

Some malts and floral hops in the nose. Pretty thin in the taste department, as expected for the style. Some corn, also expected. Initially not great but it grows on you. An almost imperceptible hop finish.

A light body and good carbonation. Overall true to the style but unremarkable.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From the University Ave. West LCBO in nearby downtown Windsor. My eighth beer from the Blyth, Ontario brewery, and second for 2025. Happy Canada Day! =)

Pours a very thin foam head. Dies down very quick. Light lager colour. Smell is a little malty and grainy.

Taste is way better than i thought it was going to be. I thought this was going to be just a fad beer, cheap bland tasting Anti American annexation trump (the dump ) beer but actually its a pretty good one.

For a 4% ABV beer, it beat my expectations and I'd buy it again.

Lets bring the cup home too, eh? It's been long enough. With my team Toronto out, I'm looking at Edmonton to win.

Keep drinking CANADIAN BEER, EH. You get some of the best here.

PS. No, I haven't been and won't be buying anything american anytime soon.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Apr 17 2025 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a clear pale straw yellow colour, kicking up one finger of loose, fizzy white head that doesn't last terribly long. A modest collar lingers on, with good lace deposition after a swig or two; looks normal enough. Standard craft lager aroma of grains, doughy malts and grassy hay.

It's fine. Grainy flavour profile with notes of doughy, biscuity malts, steel cut oats and some grassy, earthy hop notes toward the finish. Finishes with grain husk fading into a dry aftertaste. Light in body, with lively carbonation that makes for a crisp mouthfeel; goes down smooth, and with no effort whatsoever. I could drink a few of these in a row, but I'd take their Absent Landlord over this.

Final Grade: 3.66, a B grade. I think Cowbell should've picked a more compelling style of beer for Elbows Up: aside from the fact that light lagers are an American invention, they're also inherently boring. I mean, I get it... in terms of total litres consumed by Canadians, light lagers are at the top of the list. So if you're just trying to make a buck by exploiting an unprecedented wave of patriotism, then a light lager is going to be broadly acceptable to a majority of beer drinkers in a way that most other styles aren't. And to be fair, this is a genuinely decent light beer - I just would've preferred something more imaginative.
