Balanced, dependable, deliciously crisp pale with local hops and hearty serving of spelt. Our most requested beer!
This crisp & refreshing American pale ale is named for Sebastion Brutscher, the Bavarian founder [and first postmaster] 0f Newberg, OR where we farm and brew. A sociable sipper delivering a perfectly calibrated balance of malted barley & spelt [a hardy form of wheat], and dryhopped with juicy, floral, local hops, the Postman always drinks nice. Enjoy!

16oz can picked up by my lovely wife while she was out wine-tasting in Dundee, OR; first from Wolves & People
Poured into a Solera nonic pint
p- orange with a slight chill haze; no head- just a white ring and some foamy bubbles; nice color though
n- med; toasted caramely malt and pine; distinctly PNW in nature
t- a bit different than the nose lets on- lots of toasted grainy malt that carries orange and tropical hop notes; some juiciness; light-med bitterness in fin
mf- med-bodied; med-high carb level
o- pretty solid pale ale; clean and easy-drinking

they call this a farmhouse spelt pale ale, and its delicious, somewhat understated, but i guess that can kind of be their thing. its got a lovely sunny clearish pour on it, a pretty white head, and slowly rising carbonation in the glass. aroma here is less yeast forward than many of their beers, without the obvious wild character but still a sort of saison ester out there, more about the hops, which present with fresh sliced orange, pineapple, and spruce, not really bitter but pretty robust, perhaps a light toasted aspect to the malt supporting this. more of the grain in the flavor than the nose, the spelt is deeply earthy to me, lightly spicy but not as intense as rye can be, very little malt sweetness here either so it stands out. the hops hit a little less tropical and a little more weedy and northwestern now, although a floral layer is present, grapefruit too, juniper, all with great balance. just a slight belgian yeast thing maybe, green pear, more pronounced at temperature, could just be a little house ale yeast running warmer, its not a defining feature of this but its not nothing either, perhaps the hops confuse me a little here, but i dont know. cool beer, oddly complex for being this drinkable which is something i love, and it fits in well with what i know about these guys, creative, thoughtful, well executed, fun ferment. awesome sipper on a hot summer day.

Clear amber brew with swirls of foam in the Kasteel chalice. This may be the fruitiest Pale Ale I've ever tasted. Less bitter than average as well. Tastes of peaches, for some reason. HInts of apricot along with a grainy cereal taste.
This is a very flavorful and more interesting than usual Pale Ale. Mouthfilling and highly drinkable. Could be more spritzy to balance all the fruit and grain. From the 16 oz can purchased at Johns Marketplace. Dated 05/17/21.

Nice light to medium yellow body, mostly clear; good carbonation; respectable head. Floral and fruity aroma; pear and peaches. Mild malt flavor; cereal grain; light hop bitterness. Generally light body weight; mild warmth on the palate; dry throughout.
I wrestled with bumping up the overall score because of the beer's age, but figure that with even 2 1/2 months of age, it should still retain some freshness dynamics. I gave the beer (and the brewery) the benefit of a doubt and upped my overall a tad. Well, I can hope that at some point I can sample a fresher version. My bottom-line, it's still a decent pale ale, just a bit flat and unexciting.
Poured at 61° F. Bottom of can info: JUST SEND IT 03/09/21.
