Another addition from Adam to the September 2019 football tailgate at Mackay Stadium.

Pours a ruddy brown auburn kind of color. The appearance is the least impressive thing about the beer. All upwards from here. The aroma is convincing that this is gin barrel aged, all that botanical gin impression smacks you right in the nose. Juniper and lilac all over this.

Taste continues to push those gin barrel impressions, but without the turn off I usually have with gin to a degree (small quantities). Good peppery edge to it as well, should have mentioned that in the nose too. Little bit of citrus to it. All in all its pretty impressive they managed to use a spirit barrel that is practically never used outside of maybe the Strange Brew festival, and it is legitimately impressive instead of just being unique for the sake of being unique.

I presume the light chewiness and mild cherry and blackberry impression was the brett, but could have been adjunct, not sure, didn't know much about this beer. Untappd says 9.9% abv.

a cool beer from these guys, aged in gin barrels, an uncommon oak treatment, and i havent had the base beer, but this sure stands out as unique and distinctive to me. its a really pretty pale brass color, with a short but dense white head and a lot of bubbles in it. the aroma is crazy botanical from the gin, juniper and spruce and lime leaf and tea, plenty of wood and sweetness too, as bretty as this seems to be, its not all the way dry yet. some cool funk to it from the brett, lots of wood, and man, the gin is really pronounced in the flavor, things like anise seed, spearmint, peppercorn, and pear brandy come to mind, its really robust and interesting, i cant hardly imagine this without the barrel now, its so crazy. pine and citrus too, fragrant and fresh, but in proportion too, not overdone, tart and bacterial in the finish before the wood cuts it off. not quite as developed on the yeast side as it could be, not as interesting there or mature as i want it to be, but the gin barrel really makes it. my favorite of the three beers i have had from these guys recently. currently on tap at goed zuur...
