Brewer's Cut No. 20
12 oz. bottle poured into tulip
(best before April 26, 2016)
L: dark gold, amber, misty but still clear enough to see through (and appears to be clearing more); huge head of thick beige foam, about 2 inches tall and sticky; some lacing, not much, but settles into a thick collar of foam with a skin covering about 80% of the top; the color is a brilliant dark orange, SRM 10 or darker is my best guess
S: musty barn ... very tart, kumquats, lime, lemon, lime peel ... some sweetness but hard to say if its from the malt or from the blueberries; a little finger nail polish/remover but in that farmhouse style, not medicinal; at times, it has a dusty Texas pasture aroma, very authentic saison
T: the nose sweetened a bit; some musty barn flavor, tart, a little lime, but it's much sweeter tasting than the aroma suggests, and here the sweet flavor has a bit of fruit in it, so the blackberries are showing up; the farmhouse base is very nice; about halfway into the glass, a big bite of sage just hit home, very cool flavor and blends well with the farmhouse notes; also, the sweetness has almost disappeared, and it's turned into a very, very earthy flavor, almost bitter
F: big, full and crisp ... very Belgian
O: the farmhouse base is solid ... this isn't blackberry soda, and the tart, musty barn flavor is very reminiscent of Jester King's signature note; the aroma is a bit "cleaner" than the flavor, more tart lemon than dried-out grain sacks; overall a very good beer ... it has just a hint of fruit presence, but while it doesn't have a big blackberry flavor, it does taste like a true saison.

Poured into a pint from a bottle. Beautiful head and good lacing. Sort of a muddy light brown color. The smell is herbal and floral and pleasant. The taste seems to have several things competing: fruit, herbs and some spice. This beer might benefit from some aging. It is a nice change of pace, and I enjoyed it!
