I've been drinking the Axis now for the better part of a year but just realized I had not yet reviewed it. Lot of Axis deer on game ranches in Texas, for those who are wondering where the name comes from.

Pours a bright golden straw color with a bit of haze. Lot of carbonation. Not much head or lace to mention, but it's a pretty beer for sure. The nose is light with strong citrus (lemon, grapefruit) and hop scents. Very nice. Taste follows suit, with a bright grassy, citrus flavor up front that leads into a smooth malty sweetness and then finishes with a tangy hoppy bitterness. The mouthfeel is crisp and clean.

I really like this. Not sure how or why it got its name, as Axis deer are not native to TX and are actually very invasive. But still, it's a good beer. Another solid outing by the folks at Real Ale. Cheers.

Not an IPA guy, but my ignorance of TX liquor laws landed this beer in my hands. From the perspective of a general beer lover who prefers barrel aged imperial stouts and sour ales, this is not bad at all. Tastes like a very hoppy lager, but in a way, the hops even out some of the weird aftertaste you get from most adjust lagers. Goes down smooth enough…the ABV in a 19oz can gave me the desired effect.

I was somewhat disappointed in this brew. I like most Brewhouse's ales, but not this one

A: crystal clear; deep gold in color; 1+ finger ivory head that receded to a skim cap; nice lacing;

S: pineapple, orange, and strawberry;

T: balanced for a moment, then follows the nose from the middle through the finish; mild to moderate bitterness at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish;

O: OK, but doesn't stand out in any way;

Clear dark gold pour, steady carbonation that feeds a pancake of light cream colored head. Nose is citrus and pine.

Taste shows grapefruit, candied orange peels, pine, little mango, light to medium kilned malt, little kiwi. Mouthfeel is slightly oily on the tongue. Finish is bitter, and not just little. Really nice citrus and pine burn with some length.

Fresh and Texas born IPA. Generally between 8-9 bucks a sixer. Nose is earthy and dried pine needles. Lots of piny resin on taste. Sweet malt backbone. As it warms definitely moves further to the West Coast. A little old school sensibility, which I like.
