Draft at the brewery for the Secret Garden event, FOBAB 2021 weekend. Served in a teku glass from a large 2L stoneware jug. Bright reddish purple, thin layer of foam and spotty lace. Great clarity and color on this one.
Aroma is like a funky natural wine, Pinot Noir grapes lend dark fruit, blackberry, black raspberry, leather, minerals. A little more acidity and Brett from the base beer. Fairly rich with some tannin and soft oak character, pleasant restrained Brett funk that blends seamlessly with the fruit.
Medium bodied, filled out more by the dark grape richness, served still but it had some frothy bubbles. Smooth and supple, very easy to drink. Reminds me of unblended Druivenlambiek (Belgian grape lambic) or a natural red wine. Went back for another one, excellent stuff!
2024: Draft at the taproom, vintage keg from cold storage. Still tasting nice, a bit more austere though. Rich fruit, moderately sour and a dry, tannic finish. The keg had also carbed up more over time. Really hope to see a new batch in 750's someday.
