Pours clear, amber in color with one inch head. Taste is big smoke malt. Medium body, medium low carbonation, slightly sweet Hard to believe this is not German. Like a great German rauchbier..malty and delicious

16 oz can received courtesy of Roguer. According to the stamp on the bottom of the can, this was canned on October 5th, 2022. About time I got to it.

Poured into a 16 oz dimpled mug, this was a dark brown color, only yielding a slightly lighter brownness when held up directly to light. Decent sized off-white head. Modest, spotty lace.

Not surprisingly, the aroma is of smoky malts, but they're not super heavy smelling. I feel like there's a bit of dark malt aroma present as well, not dissimilar from, say, a Vienna lager.

Like in the nose, the smoked malt flavor is definitely a big component, but doesn't command things. Also, like in the aroma, there is a subtle sweetness that makes me think of a dark Lager. Finishes clean and dry.

Medium bodied, with a clean mouth feel.

This might be the easiest drinking smoked beer I've ever had. The smoked malt compliments rather than dominates. This would probably be an excellent beer for people that usually find smoked beers too much. As for me, I feel like I could drink gallons of this stuff. Thanks, Roguer!

Pours a lovely amber-brown with two fingers of airy tan head. It settles into a thin cap and leaves webbed lacing.

Smoked meats in the nose. Like what a Nueske’s catalog should smell like. Not my jam, but I can tell it’s quality. None of the formaldehyde you get with some smoked beers.

The taste has some malt sweetness up front with the smoked meat character in a supporting role.

On the light side of medium bodied. The carbonation is also a hair on the light side of “medium.”

So hard for me to rate these. I just don’t enjoy the smoke.

On the nose, this is reminiscent of some of the best smoked beers from Aecht-Schlenkerla. It's absolutely wonderful.

Less smoky on the palate, although it does come on strong on the back half of the sip and lingers through the finish. It's well balanced, as well. As a very minor criticism, more malt body and sweetness would elevate this beer to the top of the style. As it is, it's a fantastic American-made smoked lager.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours very dark brown with a small amount of tan head. The nose is very smoke-forward. Old pipe tobacco, charred wood, coffee grounds, pepper spice, and roasted malts. Lovely.

The taste is both bold and smooth. Smoky for sure, but a nice marriage with the malts. Chewing tobacco, black licorice, leather, burnt toffee, roasted malts, very dark chocolate, and a hint of dark fruits. The coffee note makes its way into the taste as well. Really nicely done.

Mouthfeel is light. Overall, a fantastic smoked lager.

Pours a charcoal brown with veins of mahogany. A little campfire smoke on the nose. The flavor is more campfire than smoked meat, it's a little lacking in depth and that contributes to the wispy, dry, ashy smoke character vs a richer meatier character. As a result, the smoke can be a little bit astringent. There are other rauchbiers that are more enjoyable out there.
