We’ve expressed our love and admiration for historic brewing cultures before and like Kölsch in nearby Cologne, Altbier has withstood centuries of trends and innovations to remain the unique standard-bearer for a proud beer drinking city. Brewed with an ale yeast we’re growing increasingly fond of and familiar with and lagered for eight weeks, it delivers malt richness and complexity while remaining crisp and eminently drinkable.

Appearance: Arrives a clear mahogany color with a two finger ecru head; excellent retention with a wall of lacing
Smell: Toasted malt notes with hints of caramel and Earl Grey tea
Taste: Toasted malt with a touch of caramel, up front; Earl Grey tea and some herbal notes, in the back
Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: I wish more breweries tacked the Altbier style and, even more, I wish they could do it as well as Fox Farm

16 oz can split with my wife, poured into a wine glass. Pours a medium amber brown with a creamy off-white (maybe light tan) head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma and flavor feature toasted malt, nuttiness, light herbal hops, pumpernickel, and hints of molasses, caramel, and hop spiciness. Mouthfeel is creamy and well-carbonated. Overall this is a fantastically complex brew for the low abv. I wish I had more of these. Really great stuff!
