Aged in a combination of Willet and Buffalo Trace Bourbon Barrels. This year's Witch Meadow Black features a combination of Vietnamese Cinnamon, Vanilla from Madagascar and Mexico, and Guatemalan coffee roasted by our friends at Ashlawn Farm Coffee. A classic combination in some ways, we intentionally sourced each ingredient with an eye towards bringing an added layer of spice character compatible with the other elements and highlighting the inherent qualities of the base. This year we're pickup up an enjoyable banana bread quality, mocha, and intense vanilla.

Bottle 195 / 1200. Typical stout in appearance. Rich aroma with vanilla and a bit of barrel complementing the base malts. Taste was excellent, with the cinnamon and vanilla both used in just the right amounts. Nice full feel. I enjoyed this.

2021 vintage (bottle number 921/1200); consumed on 3/4/2022
Pours a viscous, jet-black body, a sparse, inconsistent layer of creamy, dark mocha foam barely percolating to the surface before fading to a large, rich collar and minimal-no lacing holding to the walls of the glass.
Aroma opens with potent coffee upfront and an increasingly aggressive cinnamon backdrop as bourbon is slowly enmeshed across the bouquet, leaving charry oak and lingering dark chocolate to comprise the back end.
Taste features burnt brownie crust with creamy vanilla undertones upfront, charry nutmeg soon bursting forth into sweeter cinnamon and ashen malts over the mid-palate, while floral coffee imparts distant wisps of toasted hazelnut on the back end and subtle bourbon finishes.
Mouthfeel brings a body slightly above medium, with a fluffy, rich moderate-high carbonation settling to lush, creamy textures bristling lightly with charry malt undertones; a subtle acridity/bitterness over the mid-palate gives way to a rounded barrel warmth on back end and an almost ashen prickle settling through the finish.
Dark notes and old-school aggression facilitated by a cinnamon reduction to an almost primal, malt-based char; spice-dominant yet improbably silky, the roast is the star here, with coffee sparking energetic against a persistent bittering and subtle bourbon presence.
