Aged in a combination of Willet and Buffalo Trace Bourbon Barrels, this year's Witch Meadow base marks a noticeable stride forward for our stout program. With each passing year our own proficiency in high gravity brewing and depth of blending stock grows a bit, hopefully adding layers of character and subtly refining our stout. This year we're pickup up an enjoyable banana bread quality, mocha, and intense vanilla.

500ml bottle with black pressure cap. The side of the beer label reads "bottle no. 165/850".

poured into Durobar Charente with SP light bulb logo.

Appearance: An oily midnight black bodied stout. Medium dark brown colored head that pours 2 full fingers tall with a hard pour at fridge temperature. Head quickly drops to minimal head & just a ring of foam around the outside of the glass. While pouring this beer it looks to be a thick stout.

Smell: Nice bourbon notes pairing up with a roasty stout. dark chocolate and caramel notes as well.

Taste: Rich & sweet bourbon blended with lightly spicy rye whiskey; moderate barrel char / lightly smoky; hints of vanilla & caramel sweetness noted from the barrel as well. Leather and tobacco notes linger. A roasty base stout with hints of dark fruit and bakers cocoa. Long complex hefty finish of smooth spicy bourbon and roasty stout with just the right amount of sweetness to balance things out.

Mouthfeel: medium to full bodied stout. Low yet adequate carbonation levels. This is not motor oil, but this stout has a thick viscosity for sure. Drinks well below it listed 15.2% abv; a very smooth sipping barrel aged stout.

Overall: This is my third beer from Fox Farm's barrel program & it's also my first barrel aged stout from their barrel program. This one lives up the hype! This is a barrel aged stout that puts hair on your chest as you sip on it and it makes you feel manly. I nickname stouts like this "barrel juice". This stout does everything right! The barrel is complex and fully expressive and the base beer really compliments it's barrels very well. The texture of this stout is high end and it is thick without being too thick. This is my favorite offering from the Fox Farm barrel program so far! Excellent beer for sure. I would definitely like to revisit this stout on a yearly basis. Fox farm picked premium barrels with the Willet and buffalo trace representing themselves very well in this stout. This is an expertly blended barrel aged beer.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours motor oil black with a thin layer of dark brown head. Gorgeous looking beer. The nose is huge roasted malts, dark chocolate, tobacco, charred wood from a campfire, slight vanilla, black licorice, and some oak. Really nice, and definitely not dominated by barrel. To be honest, the barrel notes are faint. This smells like a big roasty imperial stout.

The taste doesn't necessarily parallel the nose. Huge black licorice and molasses. Those really dominate here, and it's incredible! Burnt toffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, dates, oak, and maybe a hint of vanilla. Wow. Each sip just makes me more and more excited about this beer. So well done.

Mouthfeel is VERY thick and creamy. Incredible. Overall, this is a huge imperial stout through and through. Absolutely incredible.
