Juicy New England style imperial ipa using only Australian hops. Special brew from our Hopgasm recipe, using Topaz, Vic Secret, and Enigma hops from down under. The Topaz and Vic Secret contribute Pineapple, Passionfruit, and Citrus flavors, while the Enigma contributes unique pinot gris, raspberry, and redcurrant undertones.

Dark straw (SRM 3-4) yellow and murky. A half inch creamy dense off-white head slowly falls and holds at a quarter of an inch for a long time. A curtain of lace forms rings later in the session on a Pretentious Beer Glass Company IIPA glass.
Pineapple and grapefruit dominate. Grapefruit holds out, while warmth allows some canteloupe in the aroma.
While I think this beer is more bitter than the style allows, it does follow the nose with canteloupe being more prominent. Mango shows up late. Modest bitterness holds in a long finish that emphasizes grapefruit. The finish seems to never really end. Flavor-wise, I think this is more closely an East Coast rather than a New England IPA, especially because warmth draws out earthy hops.
The body is medium to full with a super soft texture, like fruit nectar. Alcohol is more controlled than expected. Carbonation is present and soft, while the beer is surprisingly dry.
Aside from the bitterness and earthiness, Boston Kangaroo seems to hit all the marks for a New England IPA. I never expected to find such a great beer deep in the West Virginia woods. Yet, here it is. And three others I sampled from the same brewer were equally good. I wholeheartedly recommend others visit Davis West Virginia for their beer, their great outdoors, and super-friendly folks.
