lots to like about this unfiltered lager, especially fresh on tap at the brewery with the scenic wintery views. this is tasty stuff, pale but not devoid of character in the least, hoppy and strong as they go, but still insanely drinkable too, one of my favorites from our visit here last week. straw colored, uniformly cloudy but not dense looking, with a low luster and a high white head, airy and permanent. it smells like noble hops all the way, spicy and bitter with green tea and hay notes, old worldy but very fresh. the yeast is authentic too, bready and doughy at the same time, and very much drying. the grain seems simple in the nose, and its simple in the flavor, earthy and fresh, ever so slightly toasted, german but not dusty, maybe faint rye spice suggestions, but i dont think there is rye malt here. the flavor is great, its superbly balanced, rustic but dialed in at the same time, fairly bitter as these go, full spectrum noble hops on the finish, and its sudsy and frothy feeling and then its gone on the swallow in a rush of carbonation. really impressive overall quality to this, and along with the esb we had in here, one of their top selections right now. its cool that for all the modern and new wave stuff these guys do so well, that they still get down on these older and less trendy styles, and do them so ably. really was into this!
