sounds like a few versions of this have existed, and its currently a remake of a collaboration they did with district 96, who i am not familiar with. its now done with phantasm powder, which i believe is their own addition, as i have seen it in at least one other of their hoppy beers. enjoyed this on tap at the brewery, thick and juicy as they come, boozy but in an obnoxious way, it actually seems to enhance the hops in here, which are citra and nelson, and loads of them! lots of murk, deep yellow orange color, short white head fading fast. the nose is green grapes, white peaches, canned pineapple, and herbal white wine, really dramatic, the phantasm element is bold here, maybe the most bold i have known it in any beer, and it really brings out the best in these hops. in the flavor i get heavy tangerine, apricot, lemongrass, cooked sugar, and champagne. the phantasm influence is obvious. its tropical in a cool way, and to me it elevates the citra to the level the nelson is already at, so they harmonize at a new pitch in this beer. its majorly fruity and bold, but its not overdosed and it doesnt permeate my tongue or anything. its a little heavier than i want to drink much of, but not because of the exposed alcohol, more from all the grain body, its downright filling and dense, but if this is the necessary vehicle for this hop complexion and intensity, so be it. distinctive and delicious, but a sipper. its impressive how many different things these guys are doing well. it would be cool to try the original version without the phantasm to see exactly how much it enhances this!
