another banger of an ipa from these guys, seems like what they are really leaning into, despite doing just about everything well. this is strong but drinkable, summery but sturdy, hazy and juicy looking but not gross or poorly refined, orange tinted with a decent white head from the jazzy artsy looking can. thanks to my brother for sharing this, others from aurora, and even bringing me to the brewery last week, i am a lucky dude. this immediately pops with bright citrus, nelson hops seem obvious in the blend, and the phantasm vinous fruitiness is there too, maybe a little more malt in the mix than is trendy right now, but i feel like it supports these hops well without being invasive. juicy orange, key lime, green gooseberry, under ripe raspberry, nectarine, and canned pineapple all come to mind, and there is an herbal layer behind the fruit, white tea and hibiscus or something, wow. its smooth in texture but not as light as the tropical hops seem to ask for, balanced uniquely, and fermented clean enough. its big without being messy, the alcohol is well hidden, and the freshness of the hops is insane. as it warms i get the bitter side of citrus, grapefruit pith, and a little toasted layer from the malt. complex and distinctive, super hard to be unique in this hazy ipa space anymore, but this really stands out. i am loving aurora right now, its all so thoughtful and fun and unpretentious. even though this was probably the last thing i needed at the time we drank it, i really dug it. a fine ale for aggressive gambling as well...
