Pours reddish amber to copper with a faint haze. A very thin ring forms around wispy fog within a Pretentious Glass Company snifter.
Sour apple cider has sweet notes in the aroma. Caramel and alcohol fumes obscure any subtleties.
This one is quite bitter with a focus on cracker malt. Sweetness is more subdued than expected from the aroma. Ginger shows up with warmth, as does a lot of fermented fruit. The finish is strong and endless. I kind of found it to be a complex, muddy mess.
The texture is slick against a medium to full body. Alcohol, while strong, is below expectations. The carbonation is light with a modest prickle.
Unfortunately, I have a four-pack to get through. While it is definitely drinkable, (BTW, the second can was a bit better and these scores recognize that) it is far from the expectations that I had after consuming its base beer, "The Killer Awoke Before Dawn". Warmth eventually does bring out some clove, as well as orange flavors.
The flavors and aromas are pleasant enough, just not what I have come to expect from the style. Nor did they match very well with the expectations set by the label.
