A: Poured from the half-growler into a Piraat tulip/snifter-type glass. Body is pitch black with brownish edges when backlit. No head whatsoever.
S: Some roasted barley malt, a touch of charcoal and ash, fudge, and molasses. Hint of vanilla.
T: Modest roasted barley malt, then roasted coffee beans. Loads of chocolatey sweetness in the middle of the sip - thick, fudge-like. Molasses too. Hint of dried fruits underneath. But finishes with roastiness providing both a bite and contrast.
M: Low in carbonation, heavy in weight (they call this one an Imperial Porter after all).
O: Good stuff.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a half finger high light tan head that quickly died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of molasses are present in the nose along with notes of dark malts and hints of licorice.
T: The taste follows the smell and has additional hints of roasted malts and a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels a touch more than medium-bodied on the palate and has a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I found this beer to be very easy to drink considering its strength because it wasn't really heavy at all on the body and any traces of alcohol were well masked from the taste. Some aspects of this beer—particularly the bits of licorice and roasted malts—made it seem like a hybrid between a Baltic Porter and a Russian Imperial Stout.

On tap at Thin Man Brewery in Buffalo, NY.
This one pours a dark black, with a small mocha colored head, and not much lacing.
This smells like fudgy chocolate, with cherry, plum, raisin, molasses, and brown sugar.
This is definitely a classic Baltic porter profile, as there's a lot of chocolate covered dark fruit going on here. There's some sweet milk chocolate, with very light roast, and a sort of a caramelized sugar/brown sugar sweetness.
This is ligher bodied, silky and pretty creamy. It's not very thick, but that's ok.
This would be even better with more roasted character, but it's still a fun beer.
