Collaboration with Prison City Pub & Brewery

This IPA is brewed with Chardonnay grape juice and hopped with Nelson and Hallertau Blanc. The outcome is delicious.

Decanted from a 16 oz (473 ml) can into a custom taster pint; canned on 04/23/19, code #GRAPEESCAPE.
A: Pours a hazy, golden orange color with a one finger, off-white head, no more than rim retention, but nice rings of lacing.
S: Aromas of caramel, grapefruit, more sauvignon blanc than chardonnay, but certainly white grape, honey, pine, and a cocoa note.
T: Semisweet. Flavors of white grapefruit and pine predominate with white grape more present in the finish. Medium bitterness with a very clean, white wine like finish.
M: Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation.
O: This is a delicious and surprisingly clean and refreshing IPA/wine hybrid.

A: The beer is hazy yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high white head that quickly settled down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of Chardonnay grapes are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell but isn't nearly as "grapey" and has notes of underlying bready and cracker-like malts. Only a faint amount of bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is all about the Chardonnay grapes in both the smell and nose. It doesn't taste much like an IPA and is closer to being a hybrid between a beer and a white wine.
